Wayne Gretzky was born in Brantford, Ontario and played professional hockey from 1978 to 1999. He holds 61 NHL records, including most career goals, assists and points — records that may never be broken. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the same day he retired.
Hockey is deeply woven into Canadian identity. Wayne Gretzky is not just a sports hero — he is a symbol of what Canadians believe: that dedication, humility and hard work can make you the best in the world.
