Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad Opens
The Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad, the first steam-powered railway in Canada, is inaugurated at Laprairie, Quebec, running 24 kilometres to St. Johns (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu).
